When Is Celebrex Prescribed?
Celebrex, also widely known by the name Celecoxib, is a type of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is generally used to reduce inflammation and relieve pain. The drug works by decreasing the hormones that causes pain and inflammation. Compared to other NSAIDs, Celebrex is said to have lesser side effects. Moreover, it does not cause blood clotting problems unlike other NSAIDs.
Celebrex works by blocking an enzyme called as cyclooxygenase 2 which is responsible for producing prostaglandins – chemicals that causes pain and inflammation. The drug acts as a COX-2 inhibitor and functions to lower prostaglandin levels in the body.
